Air compressor is an engine-driven piston pump that converts atmospheric air into high-pressure air to power the brakes of heavy vehicles. It operates continuously while the engine is running, supplying compressed air to a storage tank via a governor that controls the "start" and "stop" pressure levels.

The Working Principles of Air Compressor

Similar to an engine, it uses intake and compression strokes to pressurize air, with unloader valves, managed by a governor, to stop pressurizing when tanks are full.

Safety Pressure: The system should operate within 100–125 psi, and never drop below 80 psi (552 kPa).

Routine inspection: Regular checks on oil levels, air filters, and moisture drainage from air tanks are required to prevent failure.

Troubleshooting: If the compressor fails to build at least 120 psi, the air governor should be checked, as this often causes low-pressure issues.
