    Function of a Fan Clutch

During vehicle operation, changes in environmental conditions and working loads cause fluctuations in the engine's thermal state. When the engine overheats, its power output decreases, and in more severe cases, engine components may thermally expand and deform, leading to accelerated wear. Therefore, a device that can cool the engine in response to its thermal condition is essential. The fan clutch for sale, positioned between the fan pulley and the cooling fan, serves precisely this regulating function.

The Horton Fan Clutch Q995582 is a quick-repair kit for a two-speed fan clutch. It includes a complete two-speed fan clutch assembly along with selected matching components (wear parts).

    Q995582

A standard fan clutch drives the fan at full speed when engaged, and when disengaged, the fan simply windmills with little to no cooling effect. In contrast, the two-speed fan clutch differs in that, even when disengaged, it continues to rotate the fan at a low speed to provide partial cooling. This reduces the frequency of full-speed operation, thereby extending the service life of the friction lining.

The Q995582 alternates between eddy current cooling (disengaged mode) and spring-actuated cooling (engaged mode). In eddy current mode, the fan rotates at a reduced speed (approximately 500 rpm), lowering fan noise, freeing up horsepower otherwise consumed by full-speed operation, and minimizing radiator wear from dust and debris. When the engine requires additional cooling, the spring mechanism engages, driving the fan at full speed. This system also enables faster engine warm-up in cold weather. The Q995582 two-speed fan clutch is particularly well-suited for vehicles with limited or no compressed air supply.

Advantages of the Q995582 Two-Speed Fan Clutch

    • Alternates between eddy current cooling and spring-actuated cooling, keeping coolant at optimal operating efficiency.

    • Reduces operating noise during eddy current cooling while increasing available horsepower for auxiliary systems.

    • Reduces the number of fan cycles within a duty period, extending the service life of the friction lining.

    • Improves fuel economy.

    • Easy to install and maintain.
